In an exciting development for shoppers, Burlington is set to unveil its latest store in Melville this March, marking a significant milestone as the retailer's 18th location on Long Island. The announcement was made on Tuesday, promising to bring fresh shopping opportunities to the local community.
Located at 834 Walt Whitman Road within the Melville Mall, this new store will take the place of the previously closed Macy’s Backstage outlet, which shut its doors in March, according to reports from Newsday. As the opening date approaches, a company representative mentioned that more specific details will be shared shortly.
This new establishment will add to Burlington's growing presence in New York State, bringing the total number of stores there to 74. Currently, Burlington operates 17 other locations across Long Island, including areas like Valley Stream, Farmingville, and Riverhead, as highlighted by the retailer's online store locator.
The Melville Mall, which is managed by Federal Realty Investment Trust located in North Bethesda, Maryland, is anchored by popular retailers such as Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace and Dick's Sporting Goods. However, attempts to reach out to officials at Federal Realty for comments on the new store remained unanswered on Tuesday.
Neil Saunders, who serves as the managing director at GlobalData—a retail analysis firm situated in Manhattan—pointed out that off-price retailers like Burlington are witnessing a surge in demand. This increase comes as consumers are more inclined to tighten their budgets amidst an economic landscape characterized by rising costs.
"The value apparel sector is experiencing robust growth, primarily because more shoppers are turning to budget-friendly retailers to stretch their dollars further," Saunders explained in his email response to Newsday. He added, "Burlington occupies a unique space in the off-price market, making it advantageous as it provides brand-name items at reduced prices."
Evidently, with a thriving market, Burlington is capitalizing on this momentum by opening more stores to engage a broader customer base. The upcoming Melville location will encompass an impressive 32,314 square feet, strategically positioned about three miles south of another Burlington outlet that debuted in 2023 at the Huntington Commons shopping center.
In its latest announcement, the Burlington Township, New Jersey-based retailer revealed that the new Melville store will feature an innovative design aimed at enhancing the shopping experience. Shoppers can expect wider aisles, a more organized layout, and improved signage to assist in navigation throughout the store.
Notably, over half of Burlington Stores Inc.'s 1,200 locations have already undergone similar renovations, with plans to redesign the remaining stores by the end of 2026. This commitment to modernization indicates Burlington's dedication to providing a pleasant and efficient shopping environment for its customers.
