Starting in January 2026, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) will reduce monthly electricity and gas bills for its customers, leading to a significant decrease in costs for most families. On average, families can expect to save around $7 on their electricity bills and approximately $1 on their gas bills compared to their December bills. Those who receive CARE income-based discounts will see an even greater reduction of about $4 per month for electricity. This reduction is primarily attributed to the decreasing costs of generating power, as stated by PG&E. The California Public Utilities Commission has also played a role by decreasing the potential profits the utility can collect for shareholders through customer bills, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. As a result, the average electric bill is expected to drop from $222 in 2024 to around $202 this month. CEO Patti Poppe emphasized the importance of stable and predictable bills for families and businesses, highlighting PG&E's commitment to lowering rates despite expected national price increases. Since 2024, PG&E has consistently reduced electric rates and is dedicated to finding new ways to pass these savings on to its customers.
