Trump's Stunning U-Turn: House Republicans Urged to Release Epstein Files
In a dramatic turn of events, President Donald Trump has unexpectedly called on House Republicans to vote for the release of the Epstein files, a position he had previously opposed. This shift comes as the House prepares to vote on legislation that would compel the Justice Department to make these files public.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump stated, 'House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, as we have nothing to hide.' This statement marks a significant change from his earlier stance, as Trump had previously fought against the proposal.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act aims to force the Justice Department to disclose all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials related to Jeffrey Epstein. This bill has gained support, with Republican Representative Thomas Massie suggesting that up to 100 Republicans might vote in favor.
Trump's statement also included a strong emphasis on transparency, stating, 'The Department of Justice has already turned over tens of thousands of pages to the public regarding Epstein. They are investigating connections between Epstein and various Democratic figures, including Bill Clinton, and the House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to.'
The Justice Department's confirmation of an investigation into Epstein's ties to major banks and prominent Democrats, including Clinton, has further fueled Trump's call for transparency. Clinton has denied any knowledge of Epstein's crimes.
This development comes as thousands of Epstein's emails, mentioning Trump, were recently released by Congress. Critics accuse Trump of attempting to divert attention from his own ties to Epstein. The Wall Street Journal's review revealed that Trump was mentioned in over 1,600 email threads out of 2,324, sparking further controversy.
